Tris Base is a high-purity, organic buffering compound widely used in pharmaceutical formulations, biochemical research, and analytical laboratories for precise pH control in aqueous systems.

🏭⚗️ Production
Manufactured through controlled synthesis involving the reaction of nitromethane with formaldehyde and ammonia, followed by purification and crystallization to achieve pharmaceutical- and analytical-grade quality. The final crystalline material is tested for assay, pH, moisture content, and heavy metal impurities to ensure compliance with USP, BP, or analytical reagent (AR) standards. Supplied as a high-purity, white crystalline powder suitable for critical laboratory and pharmaceutical applications.

🔬 Properties
A white, crystalline, odorless solid with high solubility in water and moderate solubility in alcohol. Exhibits strong buffering capacity in the physiological pH range (7.0–9.0), with a pKa of approximately 8.1 at 25 °C. Stable under normal storage conditions and compatible with most biological and chemical reagents. Non-volatile, non-hygroscopic, and chemically stable when stored in a cool, dry environment.

🧪 Applications
Widely employed in the preparation of biological and pharmaceutical buffers, including Tris-HCl and Tris-EDTA solutions used in molecular biology, protein purification, electrophoresis, and cell culture media. Provides effective pH stabilization in enzyme assays, diagnostic reagents, and drug formulations sensitive to pH variations. Essential in DNA/RNA extraction buffers, electrophoresis running buffers (e.g., TBE, TAE), and biochemical storage solutions.

⚠️ Safety
Classified as low toxicity and generally regarded as safe for laboratory use. May cause mild irritation to the skin, eyes, or respiratory tract upon direct contact or inhalation of dust. Handle with standard laboratory PPE including gloves, lab coat, and eye protection. Avoid generating dust and contact with strong oxidizers. Store in a tightly closed container in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area. Dispose of residues and solutions in accordance with local environmental and laboratory safety regulations.
