Glycolic Acid is primarily produced by the carbonylation of formaldehyde or by the hydrolysis of monochloroacetic acid under controlled industrial conditions. The purified glycolic acid is subsequently diluted with distilled water to prepare a 60% aqueous solution suitable for laboratory and industrial use.
